ISSY
I haven’t always been into fitness and exercising. As a child and teen I didn’t want to do sport. I didn’t like it and felt very self conscious. I didn’t feel I was good enough, so I always quit.
At 16, I started functional fitness classes and found my love for fitness & exercise. It was challenging, fun and made me feel amazing. The classes quickly became a non negotiable in my routine. It helped me increase my fitness, strength, confidence and led me to qualify as a personal trainer.
As a new PT in my early 20s the fitness industry was all about restriction, no carbs and being the leanest, smallest version of yourself. I got completely wrapped up in this and used exercise as a way to ‘burn off’ food. I truly believed the smaller, lighter and leaner I was the happier I would be. I can assure you this isn’t true. At my ‘skinniest’ I still wasn’t happy. I was lost. Stuck in a binge, restrict cycle. Being ‘good’ all week only to go wild at the weekend as I knew Monday would be back to restriction.
I worked with a nutrition coach for 2 years which was truly life changing. It enabled me to stop using exercise as punishment, food and nutrition as control and most importantly to stop hating my body.
I have learnt to view my body in a very different, positive way. With tools such as body appreciation, body image flexibility and body functionality. I focus on nourishing my body and mind. I am truly grateful for all the amazing things it does for me, not just what it looks like. I feel free from old beliefs and thoughts that kept me lost in a binge, restrict cycle. This has led me back to exercising because I LOVE it and because I love the feeling of being fit and strong. I have since qualified as a certified nutritionist and can’t wait to give my clients the full package.
In Nov 2023, I entered a Hyrox Open Doubles as a bit of fun with my bestie. To our surprise we qualified for the world championships and spent the next 6 months training like proper athletes. It was long, hard and there were many days where I had little to no motivation. I wanted to quit numerous times. I didn’t feel I was good enough and didn’t want to let my partner down. I reminded myself of my ‘why’. To show myself that I can and make myself proud. We came U29’s 1st at London Olympia. This was the boost I needed to keep pushing for the last 5 weeks before the worlds. Our goal was to give it our all, have fun and to race a 1.02. We placed U29’s 5th in the world with a time of 1.01.59. It was an incredible experience and I learnt so much about myself. I proved to myself that can do it and I am so proud I didn’t quit.
My favourite part of being a personal trainer and coach is watching my clients achieve things they didn’t believe they could. Celebrating their wins big or small.
